Team Nova Scotia Tackle Programs

Many eager footballers consider being accepted to Team Nova Scotia the height of their young football careers. Team NS has 4 available teams: Under 18 Twelve A-Side Team, Under 18 Six A-Side Team, Under 16 Twelve A-Side Team , and Under 16 Six A-Side Team. Football Nova Scotia personally oversees these provincial programs, so we take particular pride in our high-quality players representing all of Nova Scotia at the U18 Football Canada Cup, U16 Eastern Challenge or the U18 & U16 Atlantic Bowl!

 U14 Academy

 The Under 14 Academy is designed to introduce young players to the provincial football program, as well as develop the athletes’ skills and techniques, and prepare them for future football opportunities. The Academy exposes young football talent to a variety of coaching experiences that all focus on positional development and understanding of systems. If professional football is like calculus, think of the Academy like pre-cal lessons!

Here are a few things you can expect as part of the U14 Academy:

  • Technical skill focus: Throwing, Catching, Kicking, Ball skills (carry, pass, punt, kick, catch), Ball exchanges (hand off, pass), Tackling, Blocking and block protection.

  • Tactical skill focus: Reading offensive & defensive formations, Understanding offensive & defensive strategies, Increase variety of positional tactics.

  • Players will receive a minimum of 12 on field practices.

  • Football Nova Scotia and the U14 Coaching staff reserve the right to move players to different positions based on what they think they will be best suited for, therefore...

  • Signing up for a certain position does not guarantee that the athlete will play that position.

  • It is important to note that equal playing time is not guaranteed in the U14 program.

 U16 TACKLE

The U16 Program is designed to develop young players within the provincial football program. The focus the athletes’ skills and techniques, and prepare them for future football opportunities. The U16 program exposes young football talent to a variety of coaching experiences that all focus on positional development and understanding of systems. It consists of 2 teams: The U16 Eastern Challenge Team (12-a-side) and the U16 Atlantic Bowl Team (6-a-side) These Programs compete at the Football Canada Eastern Challenge and the 6-a-side Atlantic Bowl

Here are a few things you can expect as part of the U16 Program:

  • Technical skill focus: Throwing, Catching, Kicking, Ball skills (carry, pass, punt, kick, catch), Ball exchanges (hand off, pass), Tackling, Blocking and block protection.

The focus the athletes’ skills and techniques, and prepare them for future football opportunities. The U18 program exposes young football talent to a variety of coaching experiences that all focus on positional development and understanding of systems.
