Football New Brunswick Women's Provincial Tackle (10/02/2014)

Football New Brunswick is proud to offer females 18 years & Over the opportunity to try out for Team NB.

This opportunity will consist of a combine and several camps starting in 2014 and finishing early 2015.

Those chosen to Team NB will participate in the Football Canada National Championship for females in tackle football. Athletes and coaches will also be eligible for selection to the National Team for World play in 2017.

Upon registration, athletes will be directed to a Facebook group for further information and coaches will be asked to file an application soon.

This opportunity in female tackle football high performance is open to any female 18+ in NB, NS or PEI and subject to all the rules and regulations of Football New Brunswick and Football Canada regarding membership

Atlantic Football League Schedule (08/19/2014)

The Atlantic Football League will kick off their 2014 season with two exhibition games in the United States. Last year's AFL champion, Holland College Hurricanes , will visit Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, Maine on Saturday, September 6. The next day, Sunday, September 7, the University of New Brunswick - Saint John Seawolves will be in Bangor Maine to face Husson University.

League play for all four AFL teams kick off the following weekend on Saturday, September 13 as Holland College travels to Saint John to play the UNB -Saint John Seawolves and Dalhousie University Tigers will host University of New Brunswick - Fredericton Red Bombers at Wickwire Field in Halifax.

This will be the sixth season for the four team community-based league. All teams will play six league regular season contests. Semi-finals are set for the weekend of October25-26 with the final slated for November 1.

NSMFL - Nova Scotia Minor Football League Age Limits (08/11/2014)

Age Groupings and Divisions:

The NSMFA shall operate four age group divisions.  With respect to ages for minor football teams, the following shall be the age restrictions as defined by the Nova Scotia Department of Education:

Mite – Grades 2 & 3.  Must be 8 years of age or under before Dec 31 of the current year.

Atom – Grades 4 & 5.  Must be 10 years of age or under before Oct 1 of the current year – Moves to 10 years of age or under before Dec 31 in 2013.

Pee Wee – Grades 6 & 7.  Must be 12 years of age or under before Oct 1 of the current year – Moves to 12 years of age or under before Dec 31 in 2015.

Bantam– Grades 8 & 9.  Must be 14 years of age or under before Oct 1 of the                                 current year – Moves to 14 years of age or under before Dec 31 in 2017

Making Head Way in Football now offered for free



Ottawa - Football Canada in partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada is proud to announce that the award winning e-learning module, Making Head Way in Football will now be offered free of charge.

This football specific NCCP Professional Development module covers: what to do to prevent concussions, how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion, what to do when you suspect an athlete has a concussion, and how to ensure athletes return to play safely.

The module can be taken through coach.ca's database The Locker. To begin, you will require an NCCP#. If you have never taken an NCCP course and need an NCCP# one can be created upon registration with The Locker.

The module takes approximately 60-90 minute to complete. Once completed the module will be recorded on your coaching transcript as professional development.

Players and parents are also encouraged to take the e-learning module to help increase their knowledge and awareness.

Halifax – Friday, June 6, 2014

On Sunday June 8th, 2014, Football Nova Scotia will host the first game of a two game series against New Brunswick in the U16 and U18 divisions. Games will be played at Saint Mary’s University.  The U16 game kicks off at 12 noon, followed by a 3:00 pm kick off for the U18.  The Nova Scotia Teams will travel to Saint John, NB, June, 22, 2014 for the second game of the series.

YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL CAMP on Saturday, June 28th for Boys & Girls 8-16 - Kick off Canada Day weekend with a Youth Flag Football Camp hosted by Football Nova Scotia. The camp is designed to provide a positive opportunity for new and experienced flag football players. It encourages teamwork and fair play, as well as the skills and strategy of football without the contact.

On April 26-27, 2014, Football Nova Scotia will host a best of three (3) game series against Saskatchewan, at the East Hants Sportsplex (1075 Hwy #2 Lantz, NS).  The winner of this series will win the right to represent Canada at the 2014 World Men’s Flag Championships in Jerusalem, Israel, August 12th – 15th, 2014.              

Nova Scotia has represented Canada at the 2010 (4th place finish) and 2012 (6th place finish) World Men’s Flag Championships.  Head Coach Randy Rudel is looking forward to the series.  “We have worked really hard over the past month.   We have a core returning from the 2012 team and added a number of talented athletes” said Coach Rudel.  “It would be a great opportunity to return to the Worlds.  Saskatchewan will be a tough opponent” he added.  “We are looking forward to this playoff.”

2014 Senior Men's Flag Team Announced (03/25/2014)

Football Nova Scotia is pleased to announce the Provincial Team Roster for 2014, both staff and players.

Football Nova Scotia Hires Full Time Technical Director (12/13/2013)

Football Nova Scotia is pleased to announce Jason Warren as the new Technical Director of Football Nova Scotia. Jason has been involved in football as both an athlete and a coach for many years and has a wealth of knowledge about the sport that will be a great asset to our team.

Jason went to Saint Francis Xavier University where he obtained a Bachelors of Arts degree with a major in sociology and a minor in psychology. Following his time there Jason went to the University of Maine at Fort Kent where he graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree. Prior to his new position with Football Nova Scotia, Jason was teaching at Churchill Academy and throughout the Halifax Regional School Board. Jason is now making the transition to technical director, and with his many years of coaching experience it is a natural fit. Jason has coached both boys and girls provincial flag football teams, Dartmouth High School football, the Dartmouth Destroyers peewee and bantam teams along with many others. He has also worked on a number of program development projects with many local football organizations in order to help educate and train the young athletes in this province. Jason has many great achievements in his own career having played in the Canadian Junior Football league, being invited to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats training camp and representing Nova Scotia and Canada while playing senior men’s flag football. His experience on and off the field will provide the guidance and knowledge it takes to grow our football program here in Nova Scotia.

Halifax Coach Name 2013 NFL Youth Coach of the Year (11/14/2013)

Quentin Tynes, a volunteer coach with the Halifax Gridiron Football Association was name the 2013 NFL Youth Coach of the Year. Tynes was selected from a shortlist of ten coaches from across Canada to receive the honour. A panel of journalists, Football Canada and NFL officials selected the winners. His former coach, Queen Elizabeth High School's Mike Tanner (Halifax), was the first-ever recipient of the award in 1999.

New Football Nova Scotia President (08/09/2013)


Lantz, N.S. – Former Football Nova Scotia Vice President of Sport Development, Keith Skiffington, has been appointed as interim President. Keith replaces Richard MacLean, as he is the new President of Football Canada.

Skiffington commented on his new position, “I am honored to be appointed as the President of Football in Nova Scotia.  This is an exciting time for football in our Province and there are a lot of great committed volunteers who are passionate about the sport.  I look forward to leading and working with them to grow and develop football to its potential.”

Keith Skiffington has been involved in football from a young age. He played for the Acadia Axemen for five years (1978-82) as a Defensive Back. During this time he was named team captain and played on two Vanier Cup Championship Teams. Due to his success playing with the Axemen, his 1981 team is being inducted into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of fame this November. After graduating with a BBA, Skiffington coached the Axemen for one year.

Currently Skiffington is the Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach of the Dalhousie Tigers Football Club and has been coaching under-17 and under-18 Provincial Teams since 2010. Keith has served as the President of Nova Scotia Minor Football for many years, contributing to the establishment of many new Associations at the Mite and Atom level.
